Samoa Hotel Guide

Samoa has only a few luxury hotels, all found in the capital town of Apia on Upolu Island. Aggie Grey's is the oldest, and a legend of the South Pacific with other hotels including Hotel Millenium and Insel Fehrman catering mostly to overseas business people and Samoan families vistiing from overseas.

Samoa Resorts Selection

There are five small beach resorts in Samoa, one on Savaii island and the other four along the south coast of Upolu Island. The largest of these has only 22 bungalows so intimacy is guaranteed. All offer good value for money compared to its South Pacific neighbours of Fiji, Cook Islands and Tahiti. On the downside, there are only a couple of budget hostels, all found in Apia and dorm beds are scarce - most backpackers stay at traditional beach fales around the islands.

Samoa excels at offering excellent value traditional beach fales, most in beautiful settings. Beach Fales are made with thatch roofs, wooden poles and coconut blinds and are without doors. Beach Fales offer simple living. Traditionally woven mats are laid on the floor with a matress and mosquit net. Some beach fales have raised beds. All provide fresh linen. Beach Fales are popular with backpackers and those wishing to experience a more natural style accommodation, often being hosted by local families.

American Samoa is not very well set up for tourism and there are no beach resorts. Pago Pago Town has a number of business hotels and there are a handful of lodges and bed and breakfast accommodations on Tutuila Island.
